The Lamar University Cardinal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Rick Condit will present it’s first concert of the 2019,20 school year on Tuesday evening, October 22nd at the Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. The free event, titled Jazz at the Jefferson, will feature Lamar’s two outstanding jazz ensembles plus international jazz piano virtuoso, Sorin Zlat and his quartet.

The winner of over 20 awards, Zlat received the Grand Prize at the 2015 Jacksonville Piano Jazz Competition, the Grand Prize and Prize of the Public at the 2013 Monaco Jazz Competition, Best Solo Performance, Best Band Performance, and Prize of the Public at the 2011 International Jazz Competition in Getxo, Spain, the Grand Prize at the 2011 Europafest Jazz Competition, and a finalist of the 2015 Montreux Jazz Competition

He has Appeared in numerous jazz festivals worldwide including Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Florida, United States, Izmir Jazz Festival, Turkey, Montreux Jazz Festival, Getxo Jazz Festival, Sibiu Jazz Festival, Jazz Napocensis, Cluj Napoca, Bucharest Jazz Festival, Jazz Compass, Terra Festival, Istanbul, Turkey, Jazz Hoeillart, Belgium, Enter Music Festival, Poland

He has shared the stage with jazz luminaries including Kenny Garett, Lee Ritenour, Branford Marsalis, Lee Konitz, Chick Corea, Joey Alexander, Roy Hargrove, Chris Potter, Chucho Valdes, Sonny Emory, Jeff Ballard, Dave Grusin, Ravi Coltrane, and Leszek Mozdzer.

Zlat will perform several featured numbers with the Cardinal Jazz Orchestra and will also be featured with his quartet including saxophonist Woody Witt, bassist David Craig and drummer Gavin Moolchan.

Also appearing on the concert will be the Lamar Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Tim Dueppen.
