This innovative digital training tool cuts through the confusion\, arms the viewer with an understanding of what human trafficking is and is not\, and helps them recognize that this is a Texas problem with Texas buyers\, sellers\, and victims. It challenges Texans to change the culture in which we live from one that identifies with and honors perpetrators to one that provides safety\, security\, and genuine reintegration for the survivors of trafficking. We invite you to donate new or reusable art supplies\, including but not limited to: paper\, pencils\, markers\, crayons\, paint\, paintbrushes\, and canvases. These items will support the Harvest House Art Room for sex trafficking survivors.

These shows feature an acoustic set followed by an electric set that covers music from the last four decades. \nA Mexican-American band from East L.A.\, Los Lobos are a legendary rock band who honor their Mexican background by flavoring their rock and roll sound with Tex-Mex\, Cumbia\, Boleros and norteños\, while also inflecting their music with American Blues\, Zydeco\, Country and Folk. All incredible instrumentalists\, Los Lobos have been entertaining audiences since 1973 and\, in 2011\, were awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. \nBack in 2003\, when Los Lobos was celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their humble beginnings as a garage band in East L.A.\, Rolling Stone summed up their distinctive\, diverse\, freewheeling fusion of rock\, blues\, soul and Mexican folk music: “This is what happens when five guys create a magical sound\, then stick together…to see how far it can take them.” Originally called Los Lobos del Este (de Los Angeles)\, the group came together from three separate units. Lead vocalist/guitarist Hidalgo\, whose arsenal includes accordion\, percussion\, bass\, keyboards\, melodic\, drums\, violin\, and banjo\, met Perez at Garfield High in East LA and started a garage band. Rosas\, who had his own group\, and Lozano launched a power trio. “But we all hung out because we were friends and making music was just the natural progression of things\,” says Perez\, the band’s drummer. “Like if you hang around a barbershop long enough\, you’re going to get a haircut.” \nPerez\, once called their powerhouse mix of music “the soundtrack of the barrio.” Four decades\, 3 Grammys -11 nominations\, the global success of “La Bamba” and thousands of rollicking performances across the globe later\, Los Lobos is surviving quite well — and still jamming with the same raw intensity as they had when they began in that garage in 1973. \nThe critically acclaimed Kiko album was released in the late spring of ’92\, it was embraced by fans and hailed by critics as Los Lobos’ defining moment\, the album that put Los Lobos back on the innovation track. The album\, wrote All Music Guide\, “demonstrated the breadth of their sonic ambitions.” Comments the band’s Cesar Rosas\, “With that album we didn’t want to be tied down to all the conventional ways of recording\, so we started experimenting and making up sounds.” That is where they remain today.

DESCRIPTION:Southeast Texas Emergency Relief Fund\, SETERF (Jefferson County Long-Term Recovery) will partner with several area organizations to host a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) on Saturday\, October 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center\, for Jefferson County residents affected by Tropical Storm Imelda. \nVarious resources will be made available at the MARC\, including\, but not limited to: home clean-up assistance\, rebuilding help\, and mental health services. Basic necessities such as food and cleaning supplies will be available for distribution as well. \nNon-profit organizations and disaster relief groups will be present to answer questions and provide information to attendees. \nJefferson County residents who were impacted by Imelda’s flooding are encouraged to attend\, ask questions and find out what help is available. Attendees are asked to bring a photo ID\, or proof of address such as a utility bill.

DESCRIPTION:Lamar Jazz Concert\nOctober 22\nJefferson Theatre \nDoors 7pm\nShow 7:30pm \nEvent is free and open to the public. \nThe Lamar University Cardinal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Rick Condit will present it’s first concert of the 2019\,20 school year on Tuesday evening\, October 22nd at the Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. The free event\, titled Jazz at the Jefferson\, will feature Lamar’s two outstanding jazz ensembles plus international jazz piano virtuoso\, Sorin Zlat and his quartet. \nThe winner of over 20 awards\, Zlat received the Grand Prize at the 2015 Jacksonville Piano Jazz Competition\, the Grand Prize and Prize of the Public at the 2013 Monaco Jazz Competition\, Best Solo Performance\, Best Band Performance\, and Prize of the Public at the 2011 International Jazz Competition in Getxo\, Spain\, the Grand Prize at the 2011 Europafest Jazz Competition\, and a finalist of the 2015 Montreux Jazz Competition \nHe has Appeared in numerous jazz festivals worldwide including Jacksonville Jazz Festival\, Florida\, United States\, Izmir Jazz Festival\, Turkey\, Montreux Jazz Festival\, Getxo Jazz Festival\, Sibiu Jazz Festival\, Jazz Napocensis\, Cluj Napoca\, Bucharest Jazz Festival\, Jazz Compass\, Terra Festival\, Istanbul\, Turkey\, Jazz Hoeillart\, Belgium\, Enter Music Festival\, Poland \nHe has shared the stage with jazz luminaries including Kenny Garett\, Lee Ritenour\, Branford Marsalis\, Lee Konitz\, Chick Corea\, Joey Alexander\, Roy Hargrove\, Chris Potter\, Chucho Valdes\, Sonny Emory\, Jeff Ballard\, Dave Grusin\, Ravi Coltrane\, and Leszek Mozdzer. \nZlat will perform several featured numbers with the Cardinal Jazz Orchestra and will also be featured with his quartet including saxophonist Woody Witt\, bassist David Craig and drummer Gavin Moolchan. \nAlso appearing on the concert will be the Lamar Jazz Lab Band\, under the direction of Tim Dueppen.
