Step back in time and learn a little more about the life of Merle Haggard by someone who knew him best.  Enjoy an evening of real country music\, Haggard style!  As Marty says\, “This is not an impersonation of my dad.  I’m not him\, I’m his son.  If I sound like ’em\, I can’t help it.  If I don’t sound like ’em\, I can’t help it. DESCRIPTION:Jesse Dayton\nNovember 14\, 2019\nJefferson Theatre \nDoors 7pm\nShow 8pm \nAmericana artist and Beaumont native Jesse Dayton is  best known for his guitar contributions to albums by country musicians including Johnny Cash\, Waylon Jennings\, and Willie Nelson.  \nTickets go on sale Wednesday\, Oct 2 at 10:00 a.m. and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.  \nDayton was born in Beaumont\, Texas\, where he was raised on the music of George Jones\, Hank Williams\, and Lefty Frizzell\, all the while harboring an affinity for the spirit of punk with bands like the Clash. After touring with two rockabilly bands\, the Road Kings and the Alamo Jets\, Dayton ventured off into solo territory\, recording his Americana-chart-topping record Raisin’ Cain.  \nSince then Dayton has released several different solo albums and worked with a variety of country rock artists\, most notably Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash on Right for the Time after Jennings injured his picking thumb and required a guitar stand-in.  \nIn 2004\, horror film director Rob Zombie commissioned Jesse Dayton to record an album for the fictional characters Banjo & Sullivan from his sophomore feature The Devil’s Rejects. The resulting album was a collection of tongue-in-cheek honky-tonk country entitled Banjo & Sullivan: The Ultimate Collection. In Zombie’s Halloween II\, Dayton performs as the lead singer and guitarist of the fictional psychobilly band Captain Clegg & the Night Creatures. He is slated to release an album entitled Rob Zombie presents Captain Clegg & The Night Creatures (music from Halloween II) on August 28\, same day as the film Halloween II premiered.  \nIn 2014\, he toured with John Doe both as the opening act and a member of Doe’s backing band. In 2015\, Dayton played guitar in the band X on their US tour\, filling in for Billy Zoom who had been diagnosed with cancer. In 2016 he again toured with John Doe as well being the opener on the Supersuckers European and US tours.   \nOn September 16\, 2016\, he released his ninth album titled The Revealer on his Hardcharger Records imprint through Blue Élan Records.  \nDayton was the featured speaker at the City of Beaumont’s BMT Film Fest in August 2019 and shared his insight about the music and film industry.

These shows feature an acoustic set followed by an electric set that covers music from the last four decades. \nA Mexican-American band from East L.A.\, Los Lobos are a legendary rock band who honor their Mexican background by flavoring their rock and roll sound with Tex-Mex\, Cumbia\, Boleros and norteños\, while also inflecting their music with American Blues\, Zydeco\, Country and Folk. All incredible instrumentalists\, Los Lobos have been entertaining audiences since 1973 and\, in 2011\, were awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. \nBack in 2003\, when Los Lobos was celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their humble beginnings as a garage band in East L.A.\, Rolling Stone summed up their distinctive\, diverse\, freewheeling fusion of rock\, blues\, soul and Mexican folk music: “This is what happens when five guys create a magical sound\, then stick together…to see how far it can take them.” Originally called Los Lobos del Este (de Los Angeles)\, the group came together from three separate units. Lead vocalist/guitarist Hidalgo\, whose arsenal includes accordion\, percussion\, bass\, keyboards\, melodic\, drums\, violin\, and banjo\, met Perez at Garfield High in East LA and started a garage band. Rosas\, who had his own group\, and Lozano launched a power trio. “But we all hung out because we were friends and making music was just the natural progression of things\,” says Perez\, the band’s drummer. “Like if you hang around a barbershop long enough\, you’re going to get a haircut.” \nPerez\, once called their powerhouse mix of music “the soundtrack of the barrio.” Four decades\, 3 Grammys -11 nominations\, the global success of “La Bamba” and thousands of rollicking performances across the globe later\, Los Lobos is surviving quite well — and still jamming with the same raw intensity as they had when they began in that garage in 1973. \nThe critically acclaimed Kiko album was released in the late spring of ’92\, it was embraced by fans and hailed by critics as Los Lobos’ defining moment\, the album that put Los Lobos back on the innovation track. The album\, wrote All Music Guide\, “demonstrated the breadth of their sonic ambitions.” Comments the band’s Cesar Rosas\, “With that album we didn’t want to be tied down to all the conventional ways of recording\, so we started experimenting and making up sounds.” That is where they remain today.

While attending school in Dallas\, he played in local combos. After several years as a journeyman musician around Madison\, WI and Austin\, TX\, Scaggs spent time traveling in Europe\, the Middle East and Asia\, eventually settling in Stockholm where he recorded the album Boz. \nReturning to the U.S. in 1967\, Scaggs joined the Steve Miller Band in San Francisco\, performing on that group’s albums Children of the Future and Sailor\, before launching his solo career with 1968’s seminal Boz Scaggs LP\, recorded in Muscle Shoals\, AL for Atlantic Records. Scaggs continued to mine a personalized mix of rock\, blues and R&B influences\, along with a signature style of ballads on such influential ’70s albums as Moments\, Boz Scaggs & Band\, My Time\, Slow Dancer and 1976’s Silk Degrees. The latter release became a massive commercial breakthrough\, reaching Number Two and remaining on the album charts for 115 weeks.  It spawned three Top 40 hit singles: “It’s Over\,” “Lido Shuffle” and the Grammy-winning “Lowdown.”  Subsequently\, “We’re All Alone” from that same album\, would become a #1 single for Rita Coolidge.  Silk Degrees was followed by the albums Down Two Then Left and Middle Man\, and such hit singles as “Breakdown Dead Ahead\,” “Jo Jo” and “Look What You’ve Done to Me.” \nDespite his ’70s successes\, Scaggs spent much of the 1980s out of the music-biz spotlight\, traveling\, opening a family business\, fathering young children and founding the San Francisco nightclub\, Slim’s\, He returned to the studio after an 8-year hiatus and released\, Other Roads\, Some Change\, Dig\, the Grammy-nominated Come on Home\, the unplugged Fade Into Light\, the in-concert retrospective Greatest Hits Live as well as a stint touring with Donald Fagen’s New York Rock & Soul Review; all while continuing to maintain a loyal audience in the U.S. and overseas\, particularly in Japan. A pair of albums of jazz standards\, But Beautiful and Speak Low\, the latter topping the Billboard Jazz chart\, demonstrated Scaggs’ stylistic mastery\, as did the Southern-flavored Memphis and the rhythm & bluesy A Fool to Care. \n“Music has been a constant companion and I’m feeling more free with it than ever\,” Scaggs comments. “I feel like I’ve found my voice through all these years\, and I’ve gotten closer to where I want to be with my approach.”

His love for music began at an early age as both of his parents would sing and play guitar around the house. Mac soon began to sing in the local country church by day\, and listen to his Dad’s record collection by night. \nWhen Mac was a sophomore in high school\, he moved to Atlanta\, GA where his passion for music and faith found an outlet in the band THIRD DAY. Over the past 25 years THIRD DAY has helped transform Christian music and built a devoted fan base while traveling the world many times over\, selling 10 million albums\, earning 4 Grammy awards\, 1 American Music Award\, 24 Dove Awards\, and by being inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. \nAlong the way\, Mac has been honored to perform in front of millions of fans around the world and play music with some of the best musicians in the industry. Many of these acquaintances both onstage and in the crowd have turned from friends into true family members\, and now it’s time for a good old fashioned Family Reunion! \nMAC POWELL and the FAMILY REUNION officially started in early 2018 as the next chapter of Mac’s musical journey. The Family Reunion is a band that has developed over the past several years from the musical “brothers” that have been recording and playing live with Mac in support of his first 2 independent solo projects. \nThe Southern roots – American rock collections are foot-stompin’\, hand clappin’ tunes clearly pay tribute to the early musical inspirations from his childhood.
