DESCRIPTION:Boomtown Film Society presents The Cabinet of Dr. Caigari\nDoors 6pm\nMovie 7pm \nTickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com or at the Beaumont Civic Center Box Office (open M-F\, 10am – 1pm). \nFour Southeast Texas composers have produced an all-new original musical score for the 1920 silent horror film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”\, with each composer individually writing music in their own style for a different 20 minute segment of the movie. \nThis never-before-heard score will be exhibited with a restored print of “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” at a world premiere on Saturday\, July 23 at the historic Jefferson Theatre. This screening will include English language titles. \nA defining work of expressionist cinema\, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” is filled with dream-like visuals. The story is set in a German town that is suddenly plagued by unexplained murders just as a carnival arrives. Clues indicate that the crimes may be tied to a sleepwalker with the power to foretell the future\, and who is kept as a carnival exhibit by the mysterious Dr. Caligari. \nSoutheast Texas composers who contributed to this all-new score include: Caden L Welborn\, Isaiah Grande\, Fatih Baha Omeroglu and RMStringer \nThis is a project of the Boomtown Film Society\, funded in part by the B.A. & E.W. Steinhagen Benevolent Trust through the Southeast Texas Arts Council.

DESCRIPTION:The City of Beaumont presents a screening of the 1925 silent classic film\, The Phantom of the Opera\, featuring live score by organist Tom Helms and the recently refurbished Robert Morton Organ at the Jefferson Theatre\, Saturday\, April 30. \nDoors 6pm\nShow 7pm \nTickets are $10 and go on sale Wednesday\, April 6 at 10:00am. \nAbout the organ: The Robert Morton Wonder Organ\, voiced particularly for the acoustics of the Jefferson Theatre\, was installed on a platform that allows the organ to rise majestically from the orchestra pit to the stage level. The organ’s 778 pipes and many percussive effects produces a variety of sounds rivaling those of an actual orchestra. Hearing the organ in the theatre is a magical and unique opportunity.

DESCRIPTION:Lamar University Alumni Jazz Concert Featuring Alumni Big Band and Special Guest Jimmy Simmons at the Downtown Event Centre on Sunday\, November 14 starting at 4:00pm. The event is free and open to the public. \nThe Lamar University Alumni Big Band is made of music educators and professionals from around the state who were music students at Lamar over the last 40+ years. All were members of the Lamar Jazz Band under the direction of the late Dr. Wayne Dyess or the current director\, Rick Condit. \nThe group will be led by former Lamar University President\, Dr. James M. “Jimmy” Simmons\, who began his career at Lamar in the early 1970’s as Assistant Band Director and leader of the Jazz Ensemble. An avid jazz fan and accomplished saxophonist and pianist himself\, Dr. Simmons continued to mentor music students throughout his entire career. \nThe Alumni Big Band will perform classic favorites from the repertoires of Benny Goodman\, Duke Ellington and Buddy Rich\, as well as contemporary arrangements of tunes written by jazz legends such as Thelonious Monk and Eddie Harris. \nMembers of the band include trumpeters Kevin Stone\, Gary Weldon\, Ross Boothman\, and Rusty Lay. Trombones are recent graduates Carl Woodall\, De’Vionne Jones\, and Aaron Porter. Saxophonists will be Gary Janecek\, Don Rollins\, David MacArthur\, and Kurt Killion. The Rhythm section will include Jimmy Baas\, piano; Carl Richardson\, bass; Jeff Simon\, guitar; and Billy McQueen\, drums. \nThe concert will be opened by the Lamar Cardinal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Rick Condit. \nDon’t miss the Lamar University 2021 Homecoming: Cardinalpalooza on Saturday\, November 13! DESCRIPTION:Beaumont Oktoberfest\nOctober 16\, 2021\nRogers Park \n\nBeaumont Oktoberfest is a family favorite\, offering authentic polka and live music\, food trucks and a large beer garden. The event will feature polka performances by The Royal Klobasneks as well as live music from Jesse Dayton\, Paul Childers\, and Pop Gun. There will be a beer garden offering a selection of craft and German Oktoberfest style beers. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. No outside alcohol will be permitted. Coolers and bags subject to search.  \nOktoberfest is sponsored by The City of Beaumont\, Exxon Mobil\, Classic Southeast Texas\, Del Papa Distributing\, and Giglio Distributing.
